There is a large amount of equipment used by DUST Members in an investigation. We will go through most of them below.

Click on a category below to see the equipment for each category.

Static Equipment

16 Channel DVR (CCTV) System

Able to record up to 16 DVR Infrared / Colour Cameras simultaneously.

These cameras are setup in all the “hotspots”, and other points of interest, around the investigation site, and monitored at the base station.

REM Disturbance Device (REM-DD)

This device emits an electromagnetic field around the antenna. If anything breaks/disturbs this field it will emit both an audible and a visual alarm.

The REM-DD can be used in all investigation locations, they can be left statically and monitored by recording equipment, or they can be carried around by the investigator, setup and used in EVP sessions.

Laser Grid Pen

The laser grid pen is a green laser that projects a large amount of “dots”.

These dots are visible against surfaces such as walls, floors, ceilings, doors, etc.

The laser grid pen is generally used where a video or DVR camera is pointed, this way any “dots” that black out can be detected, so unknown movement can be seen and documented.

ION Detector Pod (IDP)

The ION Detector Pod is a great detection tool for static energy.

The IDP can detect static energy from up to 3 meters away

If it detects any static energy it will emit both an audible and a visual alarm.

The IDP can be used in all investigation locations, they can be left statically and monitored by recording equipment, or they can be carried around by the investigator, setup and used in EVP sessions.

Temperature Alarm Pod (TAP)

The Temperature Alarm Pod detects changes in temperature in an environment.

If there is a significant change of temperature, the TAP will emit both an audible and a visual alarm.

Blue for a temperature drop, and red for a temperature rise.

The TAP is generally left statically and monitored by recording equipment, or investigators if they are in the location the TAP is setup in.

Vibration Detector

The vibration detector is a device used by DUST Members to detect any vibrations within a radius around the device.

Vibration detectors are generally used in areas where “footsteps” are reported to be heard to try and detect vibrations from these “footsteps”.

Of course, they can be used where “footsteps” aren’t heard too.

When vibrations are detected by the device it will emit a visual alarm.

The vibration detector can be used in all investigation locations, they can be left statically and monitored by recording equipment, or they can be carried around by the investigator, setup and used when needed.

IR Shadow Detector

The IR Shadow Detector is a shadow / movement detector.

The IR Shadow Detector can be setup to use either an Infra Red Light, or a Laser Pointer as the trigger device.

Anything that breaks the laser/IR Light between the device and the light, it will emit an audible and visual alarm.

The IR Shadow Detector is generally left statically and monitored by recording equipment, or investigators if they are in the location the TAP is setup in.

Audio Recorders

Zoom H1 Audio Recorder

The Zoom H1 digital voice recorders are the audio recorders that we generally use as static audio recorders during investigations.

They are placed in particular places of interest at an investigation location, generally recording during the whole investigation, which can help capture EVP’s that were not heard by the naked ear.

These voice recorders record in WAV format, so there is little to no compression, eliminating the chance of audio corruption due to compression.

Zoom H4n Audio Recorder

The Zoom H4n digital voice recorders are the audio recorders that are carried by DUST Members during investigations.

These are used for EVP sessions, generally recording during the whole investigation, which can help capture EVP’s that were not heard by the naked ear.

These voice recorders record in WAV format, so there is little to no compression, eliminating the chance of audio corruption due to compression.

Video And Photography Cameras

Full Spectrum Video Cameras

DUST utilises video cameras that have been converted to capture video in full spectrum.

The full spectrum video cameras are generally carried around by Investigators during the investigation to document the investigation first hand.

Occasionally they may be setup as a static video camera as well.

Infra-Red Video Camera

DUST utilises video cameras that have been converted to capture video in infra-red.

The infra-red video camera is either carried around by Investigators, or setup statically during the investigation to document the investigation first hand.

Full Spectrum Still Photograph Camera

DUST also utilises a still camera that has been converted to capture photos in full spectrum.

The full spectrum still camera is generally carried around by Investigators during the investigation to document the investigation first hand.

Infra-Red Illuminators

DUST utilises infra-red illuminators to give extra illumination to an area for either the CCTV cameras, video cameras or still cameras.

IR

Other Equipment Carried And Used By DUST Members

MEL Meter

The Mel Meter used by DUST measures both Electromagnetic Fields (EMF), and also ambient temperature.

EMF meters can be used to see if an area has high EMF, (which can cause paranoia, nausea, general feeling of uneasiness that can be mistaken for paranormal activity).

EMF meters can also be used to detect EMF fluctuations in areas that shouldn’t fluctuate.

The ambient temperature within the Mel Meter can help detect slight changes in temperature within the area being investigated.

Digital Thermometer (With Ambient Temperature)

Digital thermometers are used to get temperature readings, and to detect changes in temperature.

The digital thermometer with ambient temperature meter not only gives a reading of what it is aimed at, but also gives a reading of the ambient temperature of the area it is being used in at the same time.

This is good for detecting and effectively “chasing” the fluctuations in temperature, which could be a spirit trying to manifest itself (of course it could also not be a spirit, and is never used as evidence presented to anyone, unless alot of other activity surrounds it).

EMF Meters

Electromagnetic Field meters, used by DUST Members to measure electromagnetic readings during an investigation.

EMF meters can be used to see if an area has high EMF, (which can cause paranoia, nausea, general feeling of uneasiness that can be mistaken for paranormal activity).

EMF meters can also be used to detect EMF fluctuations in areas that shouldn’t fluctuate.

Props And Trigger Object Monitors

BooBuddy

BooBuddy is an all in one investigator.

BooBuddy has a built in EMF Detector, Temperature Detector and Motion Sensor.

EMF readings will light up the paws of BooBuddy. One paw for a low range EMF readings, and both paws for high range EMF readings.

Temperature changes of 2 or more degrees are alerted by pre programmed voice responses by BooBuddy.

If BooBuddy is moved after it has calibrated, it will alert you by pre programmed voice responses as well.

BooBuddy also has pre programmed EVP Questions and sayings to try and elicit EVP responses.

BooBuddy can either be carried around by the investigator to use during an EVP session, or he can be setup in a location with a video camera/audio recorder, or both, left to record any potential activity.

BooBuddy

Trigger Object Monitor – (TOM)

This device works by clipping the wire onto a metal trigger object.

When a static or EM field moves near the item, the TOM will alarm and light up the LEDs.

The TOM is generally used in locations where something in particular is being moved constantly, or to place a trigger object on it, that might be of interest to an entity.

TOM’s can also be used as a communication device by getting the spirit to interact when asking questions. For example, a yes answer would be for the entity to trigger the alarm, a no answer would be to not trigger the alarm.

TOM

Electro Magnetic Speaker (EMS)

Essentially, an EMS is a speaker that plays sound as a magnetic field, rather than playing it audibly.

The reason behind this is that we find a lot of paranormal activity appears to react more with the introduction of EMF into the area.

This device will enable you to play music (eg: Trigger music, white noise, trigger sounds, etc), through an EMF.

You will be able to play various songs and sounds, without polluting EVP sessions, audio or video evidence.

EMS

Yes / No Trigger Prop

The Yes / No trigger prop is an exciting piece of equipment.

As you can see, it has Yes and No (also Y and N) on it, and the Yes is Green and the No is Red.

This device can be used to try and get interaction from an entity in the hopes of asking questions and getting yes / no answers from the entity.

This unit can be triggered either by physically pressing the desired response button, or each button also has an EMF detector built in, so the entity can just “go near” the desired button and it will illuminate.
